Complete listing of Movie Reviews
Directed by Joe Charbanic Some parts of the film were great, other parts not so great, and the acting was bland for the most part. Keanu Reeves is the most bland and boring of all. James Spader does a decent job, with what he has to work with... (read more)
Directed by Louis Leterrier I'm not going to tell you what the plot line is because I think a review should review the movie positive and negative points without revealing what actually transpires. Movies should be enjoyed without the viewer knowing what's going to happen next... (read more)
Directed by Tomas Alfredson There was an issue with the original DVD release regarding subtitles, judging by all of the one star reviews on Amazon about it. But I can't comment on that, as I did not watch the original theatrical version of this film... (read more)
Directed by Allan Randall A group of teens on their way to a rock concert run out of gas in the boondocks, near an old farm. Leaving his friends back at the car, Drew the driver appraoches the farmhouse to get some help, but finds no one home... (read more)
Directed by Steven Goldmann If I'd known that Trailer Park of Terror was based on a comic book series by Imperium Comics, I would have viewed it a bit differently from the beginning. I will, however, preface this review by saying that this is a very well made film with top notch blood-spurting, makeup and digital effects, great cinematography, and excellent sound production... Directed by D.J. Caruso Disturbia started working right from the beginning. The most emotionally intense moments occurred during the opening sequence, but the remainder was still a very engaging film. A nice balance of humor, drama and thrills... (read more)
Directed by Rob Zombie Zombie promised the new Halloween movie would be fresh, and different from the host of other Halloween films, and loaded with gore. He commented about wanting to "bring back the scare factor." He did just that... (read more)
Directed by Michael Polish If we don't have our dreams, we have nothing. Bravo! This movie was excellent. I wasn't sure what to expect at first but it was a wonderful film with a great message, "Don't give up on your dreams... (read more)
Directed by Jim Isaac Alas, another tale of werewolves, but this time the lycanthropic beasties ride in on motorcycles, slingin' lead a la Underworld, instead of just relying on their superhuman strength and razor sharp claws... (read more)
Directed by Marc Forster Will Ferrell did a great job in this outstanding story of a story in progress, wherein the main character realizes he is the main character, and with the help of Dustin Hoffman attempts to find out who the author is... (read more)
Directed by Joel M. Reed Blood Sucking Freaks is a sadistic 1970s horror/exploitation film and comedy with plenty of naked ladies. It has to be a comedy, there's no way the creator's were serious. The film was originally titled Sardu: Master of the Screaming Virgins, and ran in theaters as The Incredible Torture Show... (read more)
Directed by Adam McKay I heard that Talladega Nights was hillarious. It had it's moments, but I wouldn't consider it hillarious. If you aren't much of a Will Ferrell fan then you will probably agree. Don't get me wrong, there are tons of comical moments in this film, but some of the bits are overdone, and since they weren't that great to begin with they become annoying the longer they are carried out... (read more)
Directed by Edward Zwick Djimon Hounsou, who has an impressive life story himself, offers an intense performance of Solomon Vandy, a man separated from his family when the RUF (Revolutionary United Front) invades his village in Sierra Leone, killing women and children, and taking many young boys captive to serve as RUF soldiers (which has actually happened... Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman The first "Saw" was cool, and clever, but this one takes the cake. It doesn't matter that I haven't seen Saw II yet, they all stand on their own pretty well. Though I do plan on seeing the second one. Saw III featured some Great torture rigs and contraptions... (read more)
Directed by Jay Chandrasekhar My wife rented this on a recommendation from our local video store owner, it was a hit. We laughed the entire time. These guys are incredibly funny, but anyone looking for some higher humor may not appreciate it... (read more)
Directed by Larry Charles Borat is funny movie for make benefit my collectings of DVD. Borat, one of the characters made famous by comic actor Sacha Baron Cohen on British television and then in the United States via HBO, is offensive and moronic, yet endearing and funny... (read more)
Directed by Joy N. Houck Jr. Creature from Black Lake is a decent production, albeit on a low budget, but once played out the story is actually pretty good. Dennis Fimple is cast perfectly for his roll, and creates a likeable character as Pahoo; comical, yet somehow vulnerable, and we find out how well this actually works at setting us up for a shock later in the film... (read more)
Directed by Fred Tepper A group of researchers and forest rangers hike into the dense Pacific Northwest wilderness in search of bones of an unknown primate thought to inhabit the area in prehistoric times. They discover a burial ground and bones... (read more)
Directed by David Sereda I've been a Dan Aykroyd fan since the old Saturday Night Live days. There is no doubt he is an amazing natural talent when it comes to comedy, acting and performing music, but a "professor," of great intellect in discussing the UFO phenomenon? Sorry, I didn't buy it... (read more)
Directed by Walter Salles I'm a fan of spooky movies, and when I saw previews for Dark Water I thought I was in for a treat. Once I viewed it I was moderately dissapointed. It was just okay. Over the past two years there has been a boom of supernatural horror flicks making the box office circuit, plenty of direct to video titles (many of which shouldn't have even made it that far!), and even a resurgence in supernatural and paranormal television shows, like obviously "Supernatural," "Invasion," even an attempt to revive "The Night Stalker," one of my favorites as I was growing up... Directed by Robert Harmon The Original "The Hitcher" with C. Thomas Howell, Rutger Hauer, man this is a classic! I loved this film when I first saw it back in 1986, and I recently purchased my own copy to add to my video library... (read more)
Directed by Wes Craven If you haven't had the chance to see Red Eye I won't ruin it by sharing all the details, but as far as I'm concerned this is one cool flick, and one of the best I've seen from 2005. Rachel McAdams looks as good as ever and her performance is well done... (read more)
Directed by David Dobkin I heard some compaints about this film not living up to expectations based on the trailer and commercial spots. I'd have to disagree. Though Wedding Crashers isn't the best comedy I've seen, it is original, and does hold its own in the laugh department... (read more)
Directed by Takashi Shimizu If it didn't sell in Japan why bother with it here? The story was hard to nail down, so I'm still not quite sure what the grudge was supposed to be. The story bounces around so much that the viewer is never really aware of who's who and what's going on... (read more)
Directed by Philip Kaufman The review on the cover of the DVD reads "A snappy, sexy thriller..." I must disagree. This was the most unsexy, and unthrilling movie I've seen in a long time. In my opinion Ashley Judd doses not fit this roll, it's almost comedic... (read more)
Directed by M. Night Shyamalan Excellent idea, slow in the telling. This movie was one of the slowest moving films I've ever seen, and the slow pace ultimately brings the viewer to a surprise twist ending but by that point you're so glad the movie is over you could care less about the premise... (read more)
Directed by James Wan Didn't quite have me riveted to the screen, but there was a healthy dose of suspense and enough twists to keep the viewer interested. What loses me is the title and cover, which I thought conveyed a more demented body chopping scenario... (read more)
Directed by Chris Kentis Overall not the best film I've seen, and the ending was a bit unfulfilling, though I won't ruin it by telling you why. Also, it's based on a true story, so that in itself makes it worth watching. This is certainly not an award winning picture, but there have been worse... (read more)
Directed by Taylor Hackford Fox's performance is outstanding, and his convincing portrayal pulls the viewer into the story and gives them the feeling that they are watching actual footage of Ray Charles as his life story unfolds on the big screen... (read more)
Directed by Michael Mann Excellent! Can I say two thumbs up or did someone trademark that phrase? While the true origin of Cruise's character remains somewhat a mystery, it's balanced by the fact that we don't need much to convince us of his personality, or his goals... (read more)
Directed by Nick Cassavetes I read some reviews that paint The Notebook in a bad light, but I liked it. It was a touching film, well written, well acted and directed, and in my opinion the actors were perfectly cast for their parts... (read more)
Directed by Wolfgang Petersen Troy is a well told epic tale of the Trojan War, battles fought and loves lost. One reason I like this movie so much is the portrayal of the fabled warrior Achilles (Pitt). The presentation of his battle tactics is superb, and the realism of the battle scenes in general greatly benefit from a new age in CG special effects technology... (read more)
Directed by Edgar Wright Shaun of the Dead is NOT for the children! Prepare yourself for plent of foulness, but also prepare yourself for some great laughs. It took a little bit for Shaun of the Dead to get going, but once it did I was hooked! After the first twenty minutes of character building — during which we learn of Shaun's girl trouble, his lousy job, are introduced to Shaun's flatulent roommate, Ed, and assorted other necessary story details — I was pleasantly surprised by the originality of this film in light of it being a "zomie flick... Directed by Geoffrey Sax Prepared to be SCARED! White Noise delivers the goods. I literally jumped out of my seat a few times while watching this movie. Michael Keaton does a decent job as the husband of a famous author who goes missing and is later found dead... (read more)
Directed by Jon Turteltaub This was a fun, exciting film. Nicholas Cage plays a member of a ridiculed family of conspiracy theorists, claiming he knows of clues left by the Free Masons that lead to a grand treasure of the Knights Templar... (read more)
Directed by David Duchovny While I was picking out films one night in the local video store I spotted David Duchovny and Robin Williams on the cover of this DVD and just had to grab it. Simply charming. David Duchovny did a great job directing and stars in this unexpected gem about a man's reconciliation with his past... (read more)
